In this capacity, EEX also conducts emissions auctions for Poland during a transitional period and for the UK in respect of generation of electricity in Northern Ireland. The volumes from September to December 2023 are indicative as they are subject to adjustments in accordance with the Article 14 of the Auctioning Regulation in view of implementation of the Market Stability Reserve.ĮEX has been awarded the role as the common auction platform to auction allowances on behalf of 25 EU Member States, three EEA EFTA states as well as for the Innovation Fund and the Modernisation Fund. In coordination with the European Commission, the EU Member States and the EEA EFTA States auctioning on the common auction platform (CAP3) as well as with the competent authorities of Germany, Poland and the United Kingdom on behalf of Northern Ireland, EEX has published the volumes that will be auctioned in 2022 and 2023 in the auction calendars. This means that businesses have to buy an increasing proportion of allowances through auctions. Auctioning is the basic principle of allocating allowances within the EU emissions trading system (EU ETS).
